Southport Tri Training

Are you a first- time triathlete and signed up for Southport Triathlon? Have you raced before, but new to this race, or thinking about doing the race in the future?

Mersey Tri have a huge number of members signed up for this race, so we are pleased to offer some new club training for 2021, starting on Sunday 11th April at 0800 hours, and then every Sunday until race day on the 16th May.

These free sessions will give you the opportunity to cycle and run the race routes, do some brick sessions (bike into run), practice transition, have a look at the swim, ask questions and pick up lots of tips from members who have done this race before.

You will be in small groups, each setting off separately. There will be a coach/activator leading you, and each week we will do something different, gradually building up to the race. (Check this link for proposed weekly session timetable and further information on where to park, , riding in groups, main points of the Covid risk assessment and toilets. https://docs.google.com/.../10ig0Jp4WZjoIA6GPfeDUgJh.../edit

We will try and match ability in the groups and the group will be expected to stay together for the duration of the ride, so no-one gets left behind.

Due to some narrow roads we will need do some of the bike on the 810 cycle route that follows the race route (all tarmac) but where we can we will be riding on the road. The group will stop at several intervals during the ride to answer any questions and to give helpful pointers. It’s a great opportunity to get used to the routes, pick up useful information and a chance to meet other members.

The bike ride will be followed by a run, the distance will vary each week and follow the official race route – see above link.

These sessions are suitable for those signed up for the sprint and Olympic distance.

We have secured some private parking at a venue on the lake but whilst running your bike will need to be either in/on your car, if you’ve driven there, or if that’s not possible you will need to lock it up . We will have a volunteer on hand as bike security, although all bikes are left at your own risk.

If anyone is able to volunteer at these sessions, with this, then we would be very grateful and any expenses will be reimbursed.
