Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question?
I’ve never done a triathlon before. Can I still join?
Yes! Mersey Tri caters for all abilities, and all training sessions ensure that no-one gets left behind. In fact, joining Mersey Tri is a great way to meet other triathletes, and ask any questions you might have such as how to conquer open water swimming, clip in pedals and tricks for speedy transitions!
I’m hoping to push myself to improve and achieve my triathlon ambitions, is this the club for me?
Absolutely. Our training sessions are designed to help members of all abilities improve, and our club members are a pretty inspiring bunch. Many Mersey Tri athletes have represented the Great British Age Group team at European and World Championships. Feats of endurance by Mersey Tri athletes include completing Iron Man events, ultramarathons, 12 hour cycling time trials, the Bob Graham round, the Everest Trail race and the Arch to Arc challenge, to name a few.
I live in Liverpool/Sefton. What training sessions are nearby?
See the weekly schedule for training sessions in Liverpool and Sefton here.
I live on the Wirral. What training sessions are nearby?

I’m a beginner cyclist, can you recommend a way to gain confidence?
We encourage our members to make the most of opportunities with organisations like Breeze and Let's Ride, run by British Cycling, to improve their cycling skills and gain confidence on the roads. Breeze Rides are for women only and the British Cycling rides are for anyone, including children. They are free, and range from very short beginner rides (4 miles) right up to 30 -40 miles.
If you are able to join run and swim sessions near you, have a chat to other members there. Mersey Tri is a friendly club, and so they'll be able to offer hints and tips, and share their infectious enthusiasm for the sport! Group rides are typically organised by members, and there's bound to be someone of a similar ability to you who's keen to go out on a ride together!
I can’t regularly make training sessions. Is it still okay to join?
Yes, of course! The training sessions we run are great for meeting other members and improving your triathlon, but if you can't make them regularly you can still join us.
This all sounds great! How do I get involved?
Signing up to be a member of Mersey Tri is easy, and a bargain at just £20 a year for adults (£10 unwaged) and £5 for youth members. Everyone is welcome, sign up via the website here.
