Juniors Training

Training sessions for Juniors (Ages 7-14)

Mersey Tri launched their new junior triathlon club in March 2022, and we currently run two coached training sessions each week.

Saturday morning - 1000 am – 1100 am at Litherland Sports Park, for a bike and run session.

The centre has a purpose-built outdoor 1 km bike track and a separate running track. The juniors are split into an older and younger group  and spend the first half hour learning new bike skills and building up their bike riding fitness. The second half of the session is the run session, where we look at good running technique and building up run fitness.

We also arrange fun races between ourselves and other clubs, so that the juniors can put all of the sports together, gain experiece in racing and practise the transition between the different disciplines.

All the juniors need for the bike and run session is a bike, which is in good working order, but it doesn’t need to be an expensive specialist bike, a helmet and some clothes and trainers to run and bike in and a drink and a snack.

Monday evening - 7.15pm - 8pm, at Bootle Leisure Centre, for a coached swim session.

We have 3 lanes available to us so we can cater for the different abilities. We just ask that the children can swim 50m front crawl before they start, technique doesnt neeed to be perfect as over the weeks we will be working on improving the front crawl stroke, building up swim fitness, as well as learning some triathlon swim skills.

We welcome children of all abilities at the above sessions, aged between 7 and 14, and are a very friendly club who want our juniors to build confidence and most of all have fun whilst training and keeping fit and maybe take part in a triathlon or other multi sport event in the future.

For juniors aged 15 - 17 they are still very welcome to join our club. They can train at most of our adult training sessions by arrangement. If they are very new to sport then we may be able to arrange for them to attend the junior training sessions (in the older group) so please get in touch to discuss.

As a junior member of Mersey Tri, the children will be coached by our dedicated British Triathlon trained coaches and leaders, who are there to ensure that they can train in a safe and welcoming environment. We also ensure that members of our coaching team, who coach juniors, have the correct DBS check in place and have attended a Child Safeguarding course.

Both sessions are just £3.50, which is paid through a payment link.

The children don't need to be a club member for the first session, but after that we'll ask that they join the club, but its only £5.00 per year, at the moment.

If you want to know more about junior triathlon please see HERE. ( Become a TriStar – British Triathlon) This tells you more about "Tri Stars", who are our junior triathletes, the distances involved and what to expect.

As a member of the club parents/guardians will also have access to the Junior Facebook members group, to keep up to date with the latest news and photographs, and our junior Whattsapp chat groups.

If you are interested and you would like your child to join any of the sessions just send an email to juniorcoachcoordinator@merseytri.org.uk with your child’s name and your contact details and we will get back to you asap to have a chat and arrange the first session.

Hope to hear from you soon.
