Crosby Lakeside Junior Aquathon 2016

Event Date: 16/7/2016

Saturday's Junior Aquathlon attracted some of the North West's best young multisport athletes to Crosby Lakeside. The course of varying distances, consisted of a lake swim followed by a run up to the promenade overlooking the famous ironmen statues. After early morning rain, conditions were cool with only 2 of the 90 competitors brave enough to swim without wetsuits.

The first race involved competitors in the Juniors and Youth category. There was a double for host club Merseytri with wins for Josh Chapman and Anna Hulme in the Juniors while the Youth race saw wins for Adam Jones [St Helens] and Megan Smith [Wigan] As the distances got shorter and the competitors younger ,the action was fast and furious with experienced young triathletes trying to gain points for the North West Series mixing with youngsters who were experiencing open water swimming for the first time. There was tremendous support for all the youngsters with special cheers for the 8 year olds who competed in the final Tristart wave of the day.

With all the competitors finishing down the Avenue of Flags and receiving a medal it really was a great event at a perfect venue for Aquathlon.

Special thanks to club members who helped make the event such a success and to Mr.Robin Baynes for his support and supplying medals and finish line flags.
